Terms
Terms of use
Last updated 4 August 2026
These terms cover this website. They are written to be read, which means they are shorter and plainer than most, and nothing in them is hidden in a clause you would need a lawyer to find. Using the site means accepting them.
Who we are
The Wash Guide is operated by Obasien Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17314957, with its registered office at 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. You can reach us at hello@thewashguide.app.
What the guidance is, and what it is not
Everything here is general guidance about looking after textiles. It is not professional advice, and it cannot see the thing in front of you: your garment, its actual fibre content, its dye, its age, your water, your machine and your detergent all vary, and any of them can make a sensible general answer the wrong specific one.
The care label on the garment and the instructions on the detergent take precedence over anything we publish. Where we disagree with a manufacturer, we say so and show our reasoning; the decision is still yours, and the manufacturer is the one with the garment’s specification.
The dosing figures on the calculator come from a model of our own, anchored to representative manufacturer guidance. The page says as much in its own words. They are a considered starting point rather than any manufacturer’s instruction for your particular product.
We take care over accuracy and correct what we get wrong, in public. We do not promise the site is complete, current or error-free.
Using the site
You may read, print and share anything here for your own use, and quote it with attribution. Copying a substantial part of the writing to republish it, scraping the site at a rate that burdens it, or presenting our work as someone else’s, are not on. Neither is trying to break, probe or interfere with the site or anyone else’s use of it.
If you have found a security problem, please tell us rather than exploit it. There is a security.txt with the right address.
What belongs to whom
The writing, the drawings, the code and the design of this site belong to us. “The Wash Guide” is our trade mark; it carries ™ rather than ® because the application is pending rather than registered.
The care symbols themselves do not belong to us. The international symbols are trade marks of GINETEX and the American ones are governed by ASTM. We reproduce them to explain what they mean, which is referential use, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by either body. We do not produce care labels, and we will not build a tool that does.
Product names and brands mentioned in the writing belong to their owners and are used to identify the products, not to imply any relationship with them.
Advertising and commercial links
As at the date above, there is no advertising on this site, no sponsorship, no affiliate link and no paid placement. That may change; a guide can be funded honestly, and we would rather give you a rule we will keep than a promise we might break.
If it ever does change, three things hold. Nothing is recommended because of a commercial relationship, and no payment buys a mention, a place in a list or a kinder verdict. Anything commercial is labelled where you meet it, in the text and in the markup, rather than disclosed only here. And if an arrangement would change what we would otherwise write, we do not take it. Our editorial standards set that out at greater length, along with how the writing is researched and corrected.
Links to other sites
We link out to sources so you can check us. Those sites are theirs, not ours, and we are not responsible for what they say or do.
Availability
We would like the site to be up all the time and we do not promise that it will be. We may change, move or withdraw any part of it. Where a page moves, we redirect it rather than letting the link rot.
Our liability
We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from relying on its guidance, including damage to garments, textiles or appliances. Laundry is done at your own risk, as it was before we existed.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights, which you keep in full.
The app
The Wash Guide app is a separate thing from this website. It is distributed through the app stores and carries its own terms and its own store terms; these ones cover the website. What both share is the privacy notice, which covers the site and the app together.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and a material change will be flagged rather than slipped in.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
Getting in touch
Anything about these terms, or anything else, goes to hello@thewashguide.app. Corrections are especially welcome.
